A LITTLE SUPPORT FOR BOTH OF YOU

When every activity
seems to need you.

You set out something to play with, turn to a task, and hear “Come play with me!” again. You want your child to enjoy screen-free play, but knowing how to get started can feel like another job.

IndieSteps gives you activity ideas and guidance for the moments around them: how to help your child begin, how much support to offer, and what to try next.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Four resources.
One connected system.

Each resource has a different role, so you can turn to the support you need as play unfolds.

01 / THE GUIDE

Your Child’s First Steps Toward Independent Play

A starting point you can build on.

Use the step-by-step guide to think about where your child is now and how to offer support as they begin to play more independently.

  • Start with small, realistic steps.
  • Make space for your child’s interests and pace.
  • Return to the guidance as your needs change.
02 / THE ACTIVITY CARDS

Ready-to-Play Cards

Less wondering what to try.

Choose from 30 screen-free activity cards, with an accompanying Parent Guide, for simple play using familiar materials.

  • Choose an idea that fits your child’s interests.
  • Gather the materials and help them get started.
  • Repeat favorites or choose a different card.
03 / THE PLANNER

Step-Back Progress Planner

Notice the small things that help.

Keep a record of play experiences so you can reflect on what interested your child, what support they needed, and what you might try next.

  • Record an activity and what you noticed.
  • Reflect on your child’s experience.
  • Choose one manageable next step.
04 / THE DECISION TOOL

Decision Tool

Support for the “Should I help?” moments.

Use this tool when you are unsure whether your child needs you nearby, a little help, or more room to explore.

  • Pause and notice what is happening.
  • Consider the support your child needs.
  • Adjust as the moment changes.

All four resources are digital. The Parent Guide accompanies the activity cards. Toys and activity materials are not included.

HOW IT COMES TOGETHER

Start small.
Find what works for you.

Here is one way to begin. Come back to each resource whenever it feels useful.

  2. Try one play idea.

Pick an activity card, gather the materials, and help your child begin.

  3. Adjust your support.

Use the decision tool to consider when to stay close, offer help, or give your child more space.

  4. Notice and build on it.

Use the planner to reflect on the experience and choose what to repeat or change next time.

Made for your everyday routine.

For parents of toddlers and preschoolers ages 2–5 who want screen-free play ideas and practical guidance they can return to.

At your child’s pace.

Some days your child may want more support. Take small steps, repeat what works, and adapt to the day. Independent play still needs age-appropriate supervision.

A few things to know about the IndieSteps System and how to use it at home.

Is it suitable for my child’s age?

IndieSteps is designed for parents of children ages 2–5. Choose activities and materials that suit your child’s interests and current abilities, and adapt the support you offer.

What comes with the Complete System?

You receive four digital resources: the step-by-step guide, 30 Ready-to-Play Cards with their Parent Guide, the Step-Back Progress Planner, and the Decision Tool.

Do I need special toys or materials?

The activity cards use familiar materials. Check the chosen activity before you begin, gather what you need, and use items that are safe and suitable for your child. Toys and materials are not included.

What if my child always wants me to join in?

Start from where your child is today. The guide and decision tool help you think through the support to offer, while the cards give you ideas to try together. Your child may still need you close by. Build gradually and adjust to their needs.

Do I need to print everything?

No. You can view the resources on your device and print the pages you want to keep close. The digital resources are for you to use; the play activities themselves are screen-free.

How will I receive my resources?

The System is delivered digitally, with no physical package. Follow the download instructions provided with your order after purchase. If you need help accessing your files, use Download help or Contact Us in the footer.
